With the objective to encourage voter participation and provide greater convenience to its members, the Institution of Engineers in Sri Lanka (IESL) successfully deployed Scytl Online Voting in addition to postal voting during its 2017/18 Council Elections.
For the first time, eligible corporate members, including overseas and young members, were offered the possibility to cast their vote online from any device with Internet connection, which translated into a participation increase of over 58% from last year’s election.
With this first online voting implementation in Sri Lanka, IESL has set an important milestone in the country, providing the Electoral Commission with a strong reference to further analyze the feasibility of innovative voting technology for future elections.
