The online voting project implemented by Scytl in the Indian State of Gujarat has received the 2013 National award for eGovernance under the category “Excellence in Government Process Re-engineering”. The State of Gujarat, with a population of 50 million people, is the first state in having implemented Internet voting in public elections in India. The first online election under this 5-year project was successfully carried out in September 2010, and since then, the online voting system has been used for Municipal Corporation / Municipality Elections. Sponsored by the Indian Government, the National award for eGovernance is aimed at recognizing and promoting excellence in the implementation of e-Governance initiatives in the country.
