Over 1 million voters had the opportunity to cast their votes privately and securely during the 2022 Ontario Municipal Elections using Scytl’s end-to-end verifiable online voting technology. Scytl is proud to have partnered with many of the largest municipalities who adopted secure online voting in 2022, including the City of Markham, Vaughan, Greater Sudbury and Sarnia, among many others. Voters demonstrated clear preference for the online voting channel, with over half of all votes being cast online.

During the 2018 Ontario municipal elections, over 900,000 voters, including those in the City of Markham and the City of Newmarket, benefited from Scytl’s online and telephone voting technology, which enabled more than one million registered voters to cast their ballots electronically and securely, ensuring efficient, transparent and timely publication of final results in less than 10 minutes (on average) after the polls closed.

Scytl’s technology was used in more than 50% of the municipalities that opted for electronic voting in these elections. In addition, Scytl had already provided its technology in the previous municipal elections in 2014. Since 2006, the province of Ontario has been a pioneer in the adoption of online voting in its municipal elections, experiencing an increase in the adoption of this technology among its municipalities with each election cycle.
