Barcelona & Sydney, May 12, 2014 – Scytl, the worldwide leader in secure online voting and election modernization, today announces a contract has been executed between Scytl and the New South Wales Electoral Commission (NSWEC) for an Online Voting system. Scytl Online Voting technology will be the cornerstone of the the iVote Core Voting System, a system that will enable secure, accessible, transparent and auditable elections to eligible citizens across New South Wales.
Scytl will help realize NSWEC´s goal of using their iVote system to deliver a strong and well regarded remote voting channel to eligible voters in NSW, and possibly to other jurisdictions in Australia and New Zealand, making the online voting system a benchmark not only in Australia, but across the region. Currently NSW is one of the few jurisdictions globally with ongoing requirements for remote internet and phone voting for parliamentary elections. At this time, only the visually impaired, disabled electors or electors who are outside NSW on Election Day or live a long way from a polling place can vote via the iVote system. The evolution and modernization of the system to allow vote verification will enable all eligible voters to vote via the online channel.
“Public awareness and confidence in the iVote System is of paramount importance to ensure a smooth electoral process and reliable outcome,” says Ian Brightwell, CIO of NSWEC. “Scytl’s experience and leading edge security and technology will provide peace of mind to the NSWEC and our stakeholders.”
After a rigorous selection process, the NSWEC chose Scytl not only for its leading edge technology and indisputable security (accredited by an unmatched track record of 12 international audits and security certifications, from governments and security organizations worldwide) but also due to Scytl´s experience in working with electoral authorities in the development of electoral modernization solutions and Scytl´s experience worldwide in the implementation of independent Voting solutions for binding public elections.
“We are thrilled with NSWEC´s selection of Scytl Online Voting technology as the solution that will enable them to accomplish their objectives and be a flagship for secure and efficient online voting in the region by bringing the highest levels of transparency, integrity and security to their iVote system,” concludes Pere Valles, CEO at Scytl.
