Toronto and Barcelona, June 3, 2014 – Scytl, the worldwide leader in secure online voting and election modernization solutions, has been awarded a contract by the City of Markham, Canada to provide improved voter accessibility and convenience to all constituents via Scytl’s secure Voter Registration and secure Online Voting for advance voting in the October 2014 election.
Markham broke ground as a leader in Internet Voting and eGovernment when it implemented Internet Voting for the first time in 2003. The City has continued to offer online voting as an additional voting channel in the advanced voting period for the last three consecutive municipal elections. For the 2014 election, the Council for the City of Markham has chosen to leverage Scytl’s secure solutions to enable all voters to register to vote and cast their vote online during the advance poll period.
“We have been using online voting as an alternative channel for early voting for over 10 years. Our commitment to continuous improvement and partnering with the vendor offering the latest functionality and the most advanced security led to the selection of Scytl as our voting technology partner,” says Kimberley Kitterinham, City Clerk.
According to the principles of the Municipal Elections Action of 1996, which guided the City of Markham’s selection process, the system selected must enfranchise all voters by providing: secrecy and confidentiality; fair, non-biased accessibility; protection of the integrity of the voting process; certainty of the results; and the fair and equal treatment of voters. “The Scytl secure Voter Registration and secure Online Voting solution addresses all of these principles,” concludes Kitteringham.
During the advance voting period from October 17 to 23, Markham voters will have the option to use Scytl´s end-to-end secure internet voting solutions to cast their vote. The Scytl platform ensures voter privacy and ballot secrecy and confirms that the outcome of the election accurately reflects the intent of the voters. Scytl’s voting receipts, digital signatures and data encryption have been audited and certified by twelve countries and are used in 90% of all binding online elections worldwide. Scytl Online Voting has been successfully implemented in elections in Canada, the United States, France, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Norway, Australia and India among others.
“The City of Markham has been a pioneer in the use of online voting technologies for years. They have continued to improve on their citizen-centered service model by making the election process more accessible and convenient for all electors. We are honored to have been selected to help them realize their goals,” says Davi Bosch, Sales Director, Scytl.
