Toronto & Barcelona , June 26, 2014 – In an effort to help increase voter turnout, improve accessibility and make voting more convenient for its upcoming 2014 municipal and school board elections this October, the City of Greater Sudbury is leveraging Scytl Online Voting enabling internet voting for the first time in the city.
By offering additional voting channels and making poll side voting more convenient, Caroline Hallsworth the Executive Director Administrative Services/City Clerk in Sudbury hopes to see not only an increase in voter turnout but an improvement in the voting experience.
“The use of Scytl Online Voting technology will allow us to ensure not only a transparent and secure election, but help support increased voter participation by providing improved voter accessibility and convenience, “says Caroline Hallsworth, Executive Director Administrative Services/City Clerk, City of Greater Sudbury.
The enhanced convenience and accessibility to voters, a key part of the City of Greater Sudbury Voice your choice / Ma voix à moi campaign, encompasses the following strategies in 2014:
- Online voting will be available for advanced voting from October 14-24, allowing voters to cast their ballot anytime, from anywhere and on any device (PC, laptops, smartphones, etc.)
- In addition to the new channel provided for voting, in person voting locations will also be made more convenient by allowing voters to cast their ballot from any of the designated locations by virtue of an electronic voter´s list that is updated in real-time.
- A City transit bus “wrapped” with election material will serve as a mobile voting location during the advanced voting period; the QR code on the side of the bus will allow citizens direct access to the online voting site.
“We are extremely proud to see how the City of Sudbury is enabling voter access and convenience via the use of innovative tools such as Scytl Online Voting. Seeing cities and municipalities across Canada take the step forward and leading online voting adoption in the region demonstrates the forward thinking attitude of the country as a whole,” concludes Davi Bosch, Sales Director, Scytl.
