Internet Voting

The Electoral Institute of Mexico City awarded a contract to Scytl to provide its Internet voting solution to allow overseas citizens from Mexico City to cast votes electronically in the 2012 state election. Internet voting was available as a voting channel to Mexican overseas voters residing in over 800 cities outside Mexico for a period of 4 days prior to the July 1st Election Day. By the closing of the Election Day polls, over 20% of the votes cast in this election by overseas voters were cast online in this first ever usage of Internet voting in Latin America. The project was considered as an astounding success by the election authorities, the political parties and the organizations representing Mexican citizens residing abroad. By allowing the Mexican citizens residing abroad to vote online, Mexico has become the first country in Latin America to allow Internet voting in binding political elections.
