Ju Pin Ng has joined Scytl as its new Director of Sales for the Asia-Pacific region. Ju Pin Ng brings with him over 15 years of sales and marketing experience in the telecom and technology sectors in the Asia-Pacific region in companies such as Tellabs, Steleus, Mitas Technologies, Radio Waves and Kenetics Innovation. Ju Pin Ng holds a bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering and an MBA. Ju Pin Ng will be based in Scytl’s office in Singapore and will have overall responsibility for sales and marketing in the region.

Ministry of Justice of Finland completes acceptance testing of Scytl’s e-voting solution
The Ministry of Justice of Finland has successfully completed the acceptance testing process for Scytl’s Pnyx, which will be implemented in the Finnish local elections in October 2008, representing the first e-voting experience in Finland. The acceptance testing was witnessed by eleven representatives from the following municipalities: Helsinki, Espoo, Karkkila, Vihti, Kauniainen and Tampere. Scytl has partnered for this project with TietoEnator, the largest system integrator in Finland.

Scytl’s technology will be used in the first Internet voting experience of Swiss absentee voters
For the first time, the Swiss Confederation will allow its citizens living abroad to cast binding votes over the Internet. For this first experience, the Swiss Confederation has chosen the Canton of Neuchâtel, which has been successfully using Scytl’s Internet voting technology in their consultations and referendums for its resident citizens since 2004. On June 1, Neuchâtel will make its secure Internet voting platform also available for absentee voters living in one of the countries members of the Wassenaar Agreement and will become the first Swiss canton to allow Internet voting for its absentee voters. This decision strengthens Scytl’s position as the Internet voting provider with most advanced security technology.

Scytl partners with Election Trust in the U.S. private sector market
Scytl and Election Trust have entered into an agreement by which Election Trust will use Pnyx to offer Internet voting services to its private sector customers in the United States (Universities, labor unions, professional associations, credit unions, corporations, etc.). Pnyx, Scytl’s secure Internet voting platform, will be permanently installed in a secure and fully-redundant data center in Seattle (Washington) which will be managed by Election Trust with Scytl’s technical support. Election Trust and Scytl will also collaborate in joint marketing campaigns to promote the partnership in the United States.

Scytl presents at the Overseas Vote Foundation’s 2008 Summit in Munich
Scytl has been invited to present at the 2008 Summit of the Overseas Vote Foundation (OVF) which will be about Internet voting for overseas and military voters. Pablo Sarrias, VP Sales & Marketing, will present Scytl’s secure Internet voting technology and the project in Okaloosa County (Florida) where this technology will be used during the upcoming 2008 U.S. Presidential election. The 2008 Summit will take place in Munich on April 4.

Hugh Gallagher has joined Scytl as Director of Sales for the U.S. market. Mr. Gallagher brings with him over 20 years of experience in technology based industries, and most notably the election industry. Prior to Scytl, Mr. Gallagher founded and worked as Managing Director of Virginia-based Election Systems Acquisition & Management Services, Inc., an election consulting company assisting state and local election officials. Previously, Mr. Gallagher worked as Chief Operating Officer of Diversified Dynamics, Inc, a company that developed a Direct Record Electronic (DRE) voting system. Mr. Gallagher has a Master degree from the University of Maryland and is a former U.S. Navy Officer.

Scytl’s technology presented at the U.S. Committee on House Administration
The ITIF (Information Technology and Innovation Foundation) organized a conference titled “The Future of Voting” to present the most promising and innovative projects on voting currently developed in the United Sates at the US Committee on House Administration on March 6. Dr. Alec Yasinsac from SAIT in Florida and Pablo Sarrias from Scytl presented the project for UOCAVA voters in Okaloosa County, FL, that will use Scytl’s Internet voting technology in the 2008 Presidential election. The presentation was attended by members of Congress, NIST, several Universities, NASS, research groups and corporations.

Scytl invited to present at the International Seminar on Electoral Modernization in Peru
Pablo Sarrias, VP Sales and Marketing, will give a lecture entitled “Secure electoral solutions, increasing transparency in electoral processes” during the Seminar on Electoral Modernization organized by the National Office of Electoral Processes of Peru (ONPE). The seminar will take place at ONPE’s headquarters in Lima (Peru) from March 3 through 5 and will be attended by political authorities, electoral administrators and academia from multiple Latin American countries. The objective of the seminar is to present the social, legislative and technological perspectives of electoral modernization.

Official launching of the EU-funded project Demos@Work
The project a Demos@Work which aims at improving parliament transparency through an advanced e-democracy platform has officially started. The project will last 24 months and will be developed and implemented by a consortium formed by Scytl, GFI, Gov2U, National Technical University of Athens and the parliaments of Catalonia and Lithuania. Scytl will be the technological leader in this project which is co-financed under the 2007 eParticipation call of the European Commission.

The European Patent Office grants Scytl a new patent
The European Patent Office (EPO) has granted Scytl patent EP1783696 which protects the proprietary cryptographic protocols developed by Scytl to guarantee voter's privacy, vote integrity and election auditability in poll-site electronic voting terminals (DREs). The patented cryptographic protocols have been implemented in Scytl’s Pnyx.VM. As a leading research company in application-level cryptography and e-voting security, Scytl holds a portfolio of patents and patent applications worldwide.

Scytl presents at the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington D.C.
Pablo Sarrias, Scytl’s VP Sales & Marketing, will present Scytl’s secure e-voting solutions at a seminar titled “Secure electronic voting: Increasing trust and transparency in the electoral process” organized by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). His presentation will cover Pnyx.DRE, an innovative software solution that turns a standard PC into a secure electronic voting terminal in a very cost-effective manner. The seminar will take place at IDB’s headquarters in Washington D.C. on February 8. IDB, the oldest and largest regional bank in the world, is the main source of multilateral financing for economic, social and institutional development in Latin America.

Scytl wins contract with the European Commission
Scytl has won a contract with the European Commission for the project Demos@work. The Demos@work project will consist in piloting various innovative e-democracy applications in several European parliaments to facilitate the interaction between the citizens, their elected representatives and the parliaments. The project is expected to last 2 years in which several pilots will be developed and executed. Scytl will be the technological partner in a consortium integrated by GFI, Gov2U, the University of Athens, the Parliament of Catalonia and the Parliament of Lithuania.

Scytl wins the European Venture Contest
Scytl has been selected as the winner of the 2007 edition of the prestigious European Venture Contest by a jury formed by 17 international VC funds. The European Venture Contest is considered to be the most prestigious award for a European technology company. In this year’s edition, there were a total of 576 applications from technology companies from all over Europe. After a rigorous selection process, 125 of those companies presented in 5 European cities and 17 were declared finalists and invited to present to the final in Barcelona. On December 11, Scytl was declared the winner by the jury during the award ceremony.

Official launching in Washington, D.C. of remote e-voting project in the U.S.
The Operation BRAVO Foundation has officially announced a remote e-voting project for the 2008 U.S. Presidential election during a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. on December 5. The project will use Scytl’s secure Internet voting technology to allow overseas civilian and military voters to cast binding votes during the 2008 U.S. Presidential election. During the press conference, Pablo Sarrias, Scytl’s VP of Sales & Marketing, did a demo of the technology that will be used in the project.

Scytl files new international patent to protect the secure consolidation of election results
Scytl has recently filed a new international PCT patent application to protect a method that guarantees a secure and auditable consolidation of election results from different polling stations and different voting channels. This innovative method combines advanced cryptography and biometrics to guarantee the authenticity and integrity of the local results and to prevent the manipulation of those results once they have been transmitted. Scytl selected as a finalist to the prestigious European Venture Contest
Scytl has been selected as a finalist to the European Venture Contest by a jury formed by venture capital funds from around Europe. In this year’s editions, there were over 700 applications from technology companies of 35 different European countries of which only 18 companies, including Scytl, have been invited to the final. Scytl’s remote e-voting project in the U.S. presented at the Allamo Conference
Scytl participated in the 9th edition of the Allamo Conference which was held in Madrid last week. This year’s edition included the presentation of the project that will allow U.S. absentee voters registered in Okaloosa County (Florida) to cast votes remotely in the 2008 Presidential election through Scytl’s secure Internet voting system. Allamo stands for “Alliance of American Organizations Iberia” and allows the 124,000 Americans living in Spain and Portugal to make their voice heard through recognized organizations and get answers to key questions.

Scytl invited to participate in the electoral modernization of the Philippines
Scytl, in partnership with Hewlett Packard, has been invited to participate in a research study conducted by the Commission on Elections of the Philippines (COMELEC). This study is part of the Electoral Automation Process and the results and recommendations will be used to modernize and automate the Filipino General Elections in 2010. In August 2007, the COMELEC successfully carried out the first Internet voting experience in the Philippines using Scytl’s secure Internet voting technology.

Scytl’s Internet voting technology will be used in the U.S. Presidential election
Scytl has entered into a contract with the Operation Bravo Foundation (OBF) to provide its secure Internet voting technology in the 2008 Presidential election of the United States. Scytl’s solution will be used by the overseas voters registered in Okaloosa County (Florida) to cast binding votes remotely in next year’s Presidential election. OBF, in partnership with the Supervisor of Elections of Okaloosa County and Election Trust, selected Scytl’s technology for its unique capability to allow individual voters to verify that their ballots were received and counted. OBF is a nonprofit organization established for the purpose of helping U.S. overseas civilian and military voters effectively exercise their Constitutional right to vote.

Mr. Souto is a French national with over 15 years of sales and marketing experience in the IT sector. Mr. Souto has spent most of his professional career at CGBI, a large French publicly-traded IT services firm, where he held various senior positions in Paris and Luxemburg and was a member of its Executive Committee. Mr. Souto has a bachelor degree in Information Technology with a post-graduate degree in Business Administration.

Scytl files international patent application for remote voter registration scheme
Scytl has recently filed an international PCT patent application to protect its new method to remotely and securely register voters. This method combines cryptography and biometrics to ensure the authenticity, integrity, privacy and non-repudiation of the voter registration information. The method will be applicable to countries that register its voters through the Internet, postal mail or any other remote means. This new method patented by Scytl represents a significant improvement for voter registration in terms of convenience, flexibility and security.

Scytl launches e-democracy portals in over 60 cities
Scytl, in partnership with Gov2U, has recently initiated the launching of e-democracy portals in over 60 Spanish cities under the Consensus platform. These portals allow local authorities to interact with their citizens through electronic participation processes and tools. At the end of November, over 3 million citizens from 63 Spanish cities will be able to participate in the decision making of their local authorities through these portals. This is one of the largest e-democracy projects worldwide.

Scytl presents research paper at the 2007 Vote-ID conference in Bochum
Scytl participated in the 2007 Vote-ID workshop that was held in Bochum (Germany) on October 4 and 5. In this academic conference, Jordi Puiggali, Scytl’s VP of Research & Development, presented the paper "Remote Voting Schemes: A Comparative Analysis" in which he compared Internet voting to other remote voting systems such as postal voting, voting by email and voting by fax. This workshop, organized within the FIDIS Network of Excellence funded by the European Commission, is an international research meeting point for e-voting experts from different disciplines.
