Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Valles joined Scytl in March 2004 after spending most of his professional career in the United States. Prior to joining Scytl, Mr. Valles was Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer of GlobalNet, a NASDAQ publicly-traded telecommunications company headquartered in Chicago. Mr. Valles assisted GlobalNet in becoming one of the leading providers of Voice-over-IP in the world and was instrumental in the successful sale of the company to the Titan Corporation, a NYSE defense company.
At GlobalNet, Mr. Valles was responsible for designing and executing the strategic plan that led to an increase in revenues from US$ 25 million to over US$ 100 million and brought the company to profitability. Previously, Mr. Valles had worked as Senior Manager for KPMG’s Mergers & Acquisitions group in Los Angeles and Miami providing financial and strategic consulting services to private equity groups and corporations involved in acquisitions in the United States, Latin America and Europe. During his career at KPMG, Mr. Valles actively participated in more than 20 transactions in the telecommunications and technology areas.
Mr. Valles has a bachelor degree in Economics and a bachelor degree in Law from the University of Barcelona and a MBA (summa cum laude) from Indiana University.
SVP Research and Security
Mr. Puiggali has headed Scytl’s Research & Development Department since the formation of the company. Mr. Puiggali has been instrumental in the development of Scytl’s technology and intellectual property, co-authoring numerous international patents on application-level cryptography and e-voting security.
Prior to joining Scytl, Mr. Puiggali was the Technical Director for PKI and security projects at the IT department of the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Mr. Puiggali has also actively collaborated with the cryptographic research group of the Department of Computer Science at the Autonomous University of Barcelona where he co-directed research projects on PKI and applied cryptography.
Mr. Puiggali is a security expert and has participated as a speaker and lecturer in numerous international conferences on computer security and applied cryptography. Mr. Puiggali has a bachelor degree in Computer Engineering from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
Chief Financial Officer
Based in Scytl’s Barcelona headquarters, Mr. Graham oversees the company’s finance, legal, HR, facilities, and IT operations functions, and reports directly to CEO Pere Valles. He brings to Scytl more than 14 years of cloud and SaaS experience, with a proven track record of helping global public companies accelerate and achieve profitable growth.
Most recently, he served as the Global VP of Finance and Division CFO of SAP’s $1B+ Chief Customer Office within the SAP Cloud (NYSE: SAP) business unit. Prior to that, he held multiple divisional CFO roles within Ariba’s (NASDAQ: ARBA) global commercial organization where he helped drive significant growth and scale – including rapid international expansion in both developed and emerging markets. In addition, while at Ariba, Mr. Graham helped lead the company through several strategic initiatives including transitioning the company’s business model from a traditional enterprise software application vendor to a SaaS/cloud company resulting in significant increased shareholder value, with Ariba’s equity market capitalization increasing from approximately $400 million to over $4 billion at the time of the company’s sale to SAP (NYSE:SAP) in late 2012. Prior to Ariba, Mr. Graham spent several years in investment banking where he advised companies on various M&A transactions.
Mr. Graham received his bachelor’s degree in finance and marketing from the University of Pittsburgh.
SVP WW Marketing
Mikel Irizar joined Scytl as VP WW Marketing in December 2012 to lead all the marketing efforts for both Scytl and SOE Software. With over 20 years global experience in both large companies and technology start-ups and cross industry experience in global demand generation, Mikel will spearhead Scytl´s election modernization and voting management expansion across territories. Mikel has held marketing executive roles for global players like Silicon Graphics and Symantec leading demand generation and marketing operation efforts. Symantec saw Mikel lead the way in the creation of global demand generation efforts and the optimization of marketing resources for an organization with more than 600 marketing employees. Six years ago, he moved to Europe where he has built and led marketing teams for fast growing start-ups like NTRglobal and SofcloudIT. Mikel has extensive experience successfully building and leading branding, marketing communications, demand generation, market intelligence and product marketing teams. Mikel was one of the founders of MOCCA (Marketing Operations Cross Company Alliance) and the SaaS Council. He holds a BS in Business Administration and an MBA from San Jose State University.
SVP WW Sales
Mr. Souto joined Scytl in November 2007 as Director of Sales for France and the French-speaking countries and is currently Scytl’s VP WW Sales. Mr. Souto brings with him over 15 years of sales and marketing experience in the IT sector.
Prior to joining Scytl, Mr. Souto worked in France and Luxemburg, and spent most of his professional career at CGBI, a large French publicly-traded IT services firm where he held various senior positions and was a member of its Executive Committee. At CGBI, Mr. Souto was Director of the Insurance & Banking business unit which became the highest growth business unit in the company. Prior to this, Mr. Souto worked as Area Manager in Luxemburg and Eastern France which was the most profitable region during the 4 years of Mr. Souto’s tenure.
Mr. Souto has a bachelor degree in Information Technology with a post-graduate degree in Business Administration.
SVP Corporate Development
Mr. Sarrias joined Scytl as EVP of Sales & Marketing in May 2006, after having spent most of his professional career in Germany. Prior to joining Scytl, Mr. Sarrias was Business Manager at Hewlett-Packard, having responsibility over the OpenView Telecommunications family of software products in Europe, Middle East, and Africa.
At Hewlett-Packard, Mr. Sarrias was responsible for designing and executing an international go-to-market plan that led to a sustained increase in revenues of over 30% year over year, being the largest growth ever experienced by this product line.
Previously, Mr. Sarrias worked as Senior Solution Architect at Hewlett-Packard and DaimlerChrysler Information Services, and as Senior Network Project Planner at Amadeus Data Processing, the leading travel reservation provider. Mr. Sarrias has a Masters degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and a MBA from the EAE Business School and the University of Barcelona (UB).
VP Software Engineering
Mr. Carlos Aznar joined Scytl as VP of Software Engineering in May 2014, with over 20 years’ experience in the ICT industry working in multinational and large customers’ IT departments.
Mr. Aznar brings new strategies and insight for systems planning, architecture and software development, project management methodologies, software quality assurance and IT infrastructure management. Prior to joining Scytl, he held the position of IT Consultancy Director at Indra, responsible for the Multi-customer Software Development Unit, leading large scale bespoke software development projects. His previous experience also includes IT Manager at Grupo Auna (Spanish Telecommunications integrated provider) and Software Engineer at Hewlett Packard.
Mr. Aznar holds a Masters in Business Administration from the Universidad Politécnica of Madrid and a Master of Science of Telecommunications Engineering from the Universidad Politécnica of Catalunya. He is a PmP from the Project Management Institute.
Silvia Caparrós joins Scytl as Corporate Counsel in 2014, after more than 20 years practicing law. Mrs. Caparrós has advised Scytl, as external lawyer since 2002.
Mrs. Caparrós’ expertise has been focused on corporate, M&A, commercial, copyright and IT&IP law. Prior to joining Scytl, Mrs. Caparrós was partner at Aequitas Abogados Asociados. Before that she was partner at Bufet Albert Sorroca where, as the head of the Mercantile Department, she participated in a large number of acquisitions advising both national and international corporations, including venture capital transactions.
Mrs. Caparrós has been a regular lecturer on copyright law at the Polytechnic University of Catalunya, the University of Barcelona and at ESADE Ramon Llull University, and has written several monographs and articles on such matter.
Mrs. Caparrós’ experience brings a global and transversal vision of the legal aspects concerning corporations. This comprehensive overview together with her knowledge of Scytl will aid the company in continuing its worldwide expansion.
Mrs. Caparrós has a bachelor degree in law from the University of Barcelona, a Master in Foreign Commerce and International Law and a post-graduate course in economics from the University of Barcelona. Mrs. Caparrós has also completed the Research Proficiency Degree (MPhil) on the International Law doctoral program at the University of Barcelona and UC Berkeley.
VP Corporate Administration
Mr. Barriga joined Scytl as VP of Finance in March 2004. Prior to joining Scytl, Mr. Barriga was a consultant on corporate governance issues for institutional investors and publicly-traded companies at Soler Padró Morrow, a prestigious law firm. Previously, Mr. Barriga was Director of Finance and Administration at Asein Ingenieros SL and was actively involved in the international expansion of this Spanish corporation. Mr. Barriga has also held numerous accounting and financial positions in the Swiss pharmaceutical company Sandoz Pharma (now Novartis).
Mr. Barriga is a lecturer and professor of financial analysis at the Catalan Institute of Technology. Mr. Barriga is a European Certified Financial Analyst (CEFA) and has a bachelor degree in Business Administration from the University of Barcelona and a Master in Finance from the Institut d’Estudis Financers (IEF).
Mr. Cervello joined Scytl in September 2001 and is currently the VP Pre-Sales. In his current position, Mr. Cervello is in charge of a team of professionals responsible for pre-sales, project management, post-sales and special consulting projects. Mr. Cervello has extensive experience in the electoral industry, having participated in numerous elections and projects in Europe, Asia and America and having coauthored 12 papers and 3 patents on e-democracy and e-voting.
Prior to Scytl, Mr. Cervello was an expert in web and security applications, having worked for an R&D division of Philips in the United States and ISOCO (an artificial intelligence software company) in Spain. Mr. Cervello holds a Masters degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.
Daniel Navas joined Scytl in September 2010 and is currently the VP of Finance. In his current position, Mr. Navas is responsible of the Accounting and Finance departments.
In his previous position at Scytl as Financial Director, Mr. Navas was instrumental in the development of the organizational structure of the Group in North America, Latin America and Asia-Pacific, which included the creation of multiple new subsidiaries and the acquisition of SOE Software and MAXIM Consulting in the United States, and OAK Soluçoes in Brazil.
Prior to joining Scytl, Mr. Navas was a consultant in Deloitte for 5 years, providing audit assurance to several multinational groups, and also participated in several M&A transactions.
Mr. Navas has a bachelor degree in Business Administration from the University Pompeu Fabra (UPF) and a Master in Finance from the University of Barcelona (UB).
Onno van Dommelen
VP Strategic Projects
Mr. van Dommelen joined Scytl in February 2004 and is now its VP of Strategic Projects. Mr. van Dommelen is a Dutch national with over 15 years of experience in different senior IT positions for multinational corporations and governments in the United States, Europe and Central America.
Prior to joining Scytl, Mr. van Dommelen was the IT Director of the Robotics Division of Mecalux, one of the world’s leading companies in the warehousing system market, where he managed a team of 30 IT professionals. Mr. van Dommelen has a proven record of successfully delivering projects within budget and on time for organizations such as Hewlett Packard, British Petroleum, Royal Dutch Army, Hoogovens Corus and AMC University.
Mr. van Dommelen is an expert in software project management and has extensive knowledge of software development life-cycle methods, software engineering methodologies and processes, software architecture, and programming languages. Mr. van Dommelen has undergraduate studies in Software Engineering from the Dutch Open University and numerous post-graduate courses on quality assurance and software development processes.
VP Product Management
Mr. Joan Villalta joined Scytl in 2013, and currently holds the position of Vice President of Product Management and brings to both Scytl and its clients over 20 years of Product Management and Security knowhow.
Mr. Villalta´s past experience includes executive positions at ABISIS; NTRglobal where he developed winning strategies for mixing technology, UX and product management; and Panda Security where he spearheaded the company’s Corporate Security award winning product management strategies. In additional, he has collaborated in key projects for companies such as Koalink, Hotelerum and Zyncro in the development and implementation of industry specific product management and operations initiatives.
Mr. Villalta holds a bachelor degree in Social Psychology from the Universitat Autónoma of Barcelona.
Mr. Jim Walsh joins Scytl as the Vice President of Operations. His global leadership experience and ease of working in multi-cultural environments brings a strong and service-centric approach to Scytl election modernization project delivery.
Prior to joining Scytl, Mr. Walsh was a Director of Technology Outsourcing at everis, where he focused both on business growth and delivery maturity. In addition, he participated in a joint initiative with other Technology Services providers to build awareness of the near-shore sourcing alternative, and authored a paper on the topic that was short-listed for an award at the 2012 UK National Outsourcing Association conference. Previously, he worked as an Application Services Executive at Hewlett-Packard where he led a large global services team providing technology solutions for a multi-national firm. A central challenge of this role was the development of a single, globally distributed team, and the organization and processes necessary to ensure that this team acted as one across the globe. Mr. Walsh has a Master of Science degree from the University of Arizona.
Senior Director Marketing Communications
Ms. Leticia Barcia joined Scytl in 2013, and returns to Spain after spending most of her Marketing career abroad.
Prior to joining Scytl, Ms. Barcia has directed international marketing teams in both Fortune 1000 organizations – defining and executing marketing strategies for high growth and market leadership – and startups – implementing international marketing strategies from the start-up phase through to public offering and beyond – in Europe, North America and Asia. She has held senior global Marketing positions in companies such as Voltage Security, Panda Security, Powered Inc (acquired by Dachis Group), Motive Inc. (acquired by Alcatel), Computer Associates, JDEdwards and and SAS.
Ms. Barcia brings global experience in taking tactical marketing initiatives to the next level of strategic international influence, expansion, visibility and growth. She holds a bachelor degree in Business Administration from the Universidad Autónoma of Madrid.
General Manager North America
Mr. Brian O’Connor joins Scytl as General Manager of the USA and Canada and is responsible for the strategic growth and customer satisfaction initiatives for both Scytl and SOE in the region.
Mr. O’Connor brings more than 20 years of executive management experience to the organization having held key leadership positions at Sequoia Voting Systems, Daon, Datacard, and Danaher and as a business owner and consultant focused on Identity and Election automation and modernization. His instrumental role in statewide technology implementations across 26 States and multiple municipal governments ensures extensive State & Local Government background that will be a benefit to the organizations current and future customers. Additionally, Mr. O’Connor has actively participated in several significant Mergers & Acquisitions within the space.
Mr. O’Connor was a collegiate and international wrestler while pursuing a double major at Springfield College in Massachusetts.
General Manager Canada
Mr. Catahan joined Scytl as Project Manager for Canada in 2012, managing the Scytl’s accounts in the Region. Mr. Catahan has over 25 years of experience in Project Management and Operations in both the public and the private sector. Prior to joining Scytl, Mr. Catahan was the Registrar of Canadore College, Chair of CRALO (Committee of Registrars, Admissions & Liaison Officers for Ontario Colleges) and a Strategic Advisor for the First Nations Learning Unit. Mr. Catahan has been featured in various Computer Magazines worldwide in areas related to ISO Methodologies, ITIL and Service Excellence.
Mr. Catahan has a Computer Science degree from CDI, Toronto and is a Certified ITSMF from the Council for Service Management Education.
Edgardo Torres Caballero
General Manager for Latin America & the Caribbean
Edgardo Torres-Caballero has recently joined Scytl as General Manager for Latin America, managing Scytl’s Latin American sales and operations team. Prior to joining Scytl, Mr. Torres-Caballero was Head of the Government and Public Affairs Advocacy organization for Latin America and the Caribbean region at Hewlett-Packard, having responsibility over corporate policies as well as public sector sales alignment with all Hewlett Packard Business Units (BU) in the region. Mr. Torres-Caballero most recently founded his own company and ran consulting and IT solution sales for Fortune Top 20 companies. Previously, Mr. Torres-Caballero served as Deputy Secretary (Vice Minister level) for Economic Development and Commerce for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and Executive Director of the Port of the Americas Authority also in the Commonwealth’s government. Mr. Torres-Caballero has served in multiple public sector senior positions, Board of Directors and Non Profit Organizations during this time, having participated and advanced critical initiatives in science and technology, economic and development strategic initiatives. Mr. Torres-Caballero holds a Bachelor degree in International Relations and Economics from the George Washington University in Washington D.C. and graduate courses from the Fundãçao Getulio Vargas (FGV) in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
General Manager Asia Pacific
Mr. Elbhar joined Scytl as Director of Business Development in May 2008. After successfully leading Scytl´s Business Development team, he will now be the driving force behind the strengthening of Scytl´s strategy in the Asia Pacific Region. Based in Hong Kong Mr. Elbhar will drive an organization that spans a territory comprising almost 3.5 billion citizens, stretching from Pakistan in the west, to China in the east and New Zealand to the south.
Mr. Elbhar has over 15 years of international sales and marketing experience in the technology sector in companies such as CDC Corporation, Ross Systems, Selligent and Cap Gemini. In these companies, Mr. Elbhar was involved in complex sales processes and in managing the relationships with key partners in countries such as Spain, France, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Morocco, Greece and Latin America.
Mr. Elbhar holds a B.S. degree in Electronics and Computer Engineering from ENSEA Cergy Pontoise (France). Mr. Elbhar is fluent in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese.
General Manager Europe
Mr. Thalmann joins Scytl as General Manager Europe. He has spent most of his professional career at global IT companies in senior positions specializing in the Banking Sector. Prior to joining Scytl, Mr. Thalmann was Managing Director at AGS Global Services, where he was responsible for country management, sales and P&L, and led the transformation of a basic IT services business to a professional services organization doubling its revenues in 3 years. Previously, he worked at Wincor Nixdorf where he managed an international sales division and global account teams taking customers to top ranked accounts worldwide. Prior to this, he hold several sales leadership positions at IBM.
Mr. Thalmann´ international experience encompasses Europe the US and Latin America and he holds a Bachelor degree in International Business and an MBA specialized in Management Information Systems from Dominican University in Chicago IL.
General Manager Brazil and Peru
Alex Freitas joined Scytl as General Manager for Brazil and Peru. Having opened the first Scytl subsidiary in Brazil, Mr. Freitas leads all the sales and expansion efforts for Scytl in Brazil and Peru, bringing over 28 years of international sales management, business development and operational experience to the organization. Prior to joining Scytl, Mr. Freitas worked as a consultant, account manager, sales manager, general manager and VP for HP, Oracle and Aruba Networks. As a Senior Consultant, he defined the network topology and infrastructure to support the Brazilian´s electoral process. He has dedicated the last 13 years supporting startup companies in Brazil and South America to establish their operation, go-to-market, PR, and sales objectives. Mr. Freitas has extensive experience in successfully building and leading branding, marketing communications, demand generation, market intelligence and product marketing teams. He holds a BS in Business Administration and System Engineer PUC-RJ – Brazil, post-graduated in Networking and Object Oriented Systems, Executive MBA in FGV-RJ and Ohio University and Senior Executive post-MBA – BPSE in IMD, Lausanne, Switzerland, in addition to technical training in Stanford, MIT, HP Labs, Oracle Labs, Berkley and others.
